Past Two Weekend Recap

Hey all,

These past two weekends were a blur with three days of racing at Middlebury, the Dublin Double and regionals at Rumford.

Lets start with a look at the Middlebury triple, on Friday was the mens 15k classic mass start and the womens 10k mass start going second.  In the men's race, Braden Becker returned to racing and led the team with a 6th place overall, closely followed by Isaac Freitas-Eagan in 9th, and Jack Consenstein in 10th.  Which was good enough to tie for 2nd place with Dartmouth for the team score.  In the women's 10k, the conditions changed right at the start of the race and almost everyone in the top 20 was on zeros but unfortunately none of our women were.  They still did a great job with the skis they were given and were led by Ingrid Thyr in 23rd place, Sonya Jampel in 31st, and Magdalen York in 32nd.  This put the women in 7th place overall for the team score on the day.

Saturday was the mens and womens 10k/5k individual skate races, the warm weather from the day before made for icy fast trails.  In the men's race Isaac led the way with another 9th place finish, Nick Gardner was next in 16th, and rounding out the scoring was Evan Carr in 17th.  This put the men in 5th on the day in the team score but only 6 points from 3rd.  In the women's 5k, the track become really icy on the downhills and there were a fair amount of falls throughout the race.  Sonya Jampel led the way for the Ephs with a 18th place, Magdalen York finished in 24th, and rounding out the scoring was Ingrid in 30th place.  This put the women in 7th place overall for the team score once again.

On Sunday we had four racers in the eastern cup 10k/15k classic mass start, in the women's race Ivy Spiegel Ostrom placed 36th and Marika Massey-Bierman placed 46th.  In the men's race both of our guys fell early on and lost the lead pack but Emil Graf ended up in 13th and Franklin Reilly was 16th place.

This past Friday was the regionals 5k/10k skate individual races where Magdalen York led the way in 24th place (15seconds out of 10th), followed by Ingrid Thyr in 27th, and Sonya Jampel in 29th.  This put the women in 7th place on the day for the team score.  In the men's race Nick Gardner led the way in 12th place, followed by Isaac Freitas-Eagan in 16th, and Braden Becker in 18th.  Putting the men in 6th place for the team score.

Saturday was the 15k/20k classic mass starts, where Ingrid Thyr led the way for the women in 14th, followed by Magdalen York in 23rd, and Sonya Jampel in 33rd.  Giving the women a 5th place finish for the team score.  In the mens race, Isaac Freitas-Eagan led the way with a 12th place, followed by Evan Carr in 18th, and Jack Consenstein in 21st.  Putting the men in 4th place for the team score.  Meanwhile on Saturday the Dublin Double Eastern cup was going on where Emil Graf was 5th and Andrew Hull was 10th in the first race of the day which was 3k prologue.  In the afternoon they did a 1.5k skate qualifier where Emil Graf won and Andrew Hull finished in 8th!  Congrats Emil!  Congrats are also in order for our two NCAA qualifiers Braden Becker and Isaac Freitas-Eagan!  One last thing to note is Nick Gardner tied for the last spot to go to NCAA's but lost the tiebreaker, tough luck for Nick but keep your head up it was still a heck of a season and you did a great job being a leader on the team!

On to NCAA's!
