A-Tay wins Agony Hill Time Trial

A little late, but check out the FasterSkier article on Alex's awesome race at the Western REG camp in early July.

"Agony Hill Time Trial served as the second of two intensity workouts. It consists of roughly a 1500’ vertical run/speed hike up a ridgeline just north of the University of Utah. The weather was ideal for Salt Lake City with early morning temperatures in the 70’s and pretty good air quality. The junior athletes threw down some great times, despite the big week of training. While only one male athlete recorded a time under 16 minutes four years ago at this same camp (Glen Randall 14:49), this year six boys broke 16 minutes! It was a similar situation for the girls. In 2004 three girls posted sub 20 minute times, and this year there were six. It was great to see that these athletes are raising the bar, and as a group coming into this camp more fit. For the boys, Alex Taylor (Far West/Williams College) posted the top time of the day in 14:45 and the third fastest time ever run by a junior."

Aubrey got fourth in the biggest-deal mountain race in Alaska, held every year on Independence day. Congratulations, Aubrey! You rock!

For the uninitiated, here is a little introduction video to this brutal tradition:

I couldn't find a picture of Aubrey online, so I included a photo of Holly Brooks, who some of you know- she got second! She is just reaching the top.

SEWARD -- Cedar Bourgeois of Seward rolled to her fifth consecutive women's title at Mount Marathon today, storming up and down the 3,022-foot peak in an unofficial time of 52 minutes, 11 seconds.

Bourgeois, 32, clocked the sixth-fastest time in women's race history and the second-best time of her career in the race that is just shy of 3 1-2 miles and draws thousands of spectators to this small town nestled against Resurrection Bay.

Holly Brooks of Anchorage finished second in her Mount Marathon debut in 55:29. Last year's runner-up, Nicole DeYong, claimed third in 58:40. Former junior race champion Aubrey Smith, who grew up in Seward, took fourth in 58:57. And last year's junior champ, Denali Foldager, 18, of Seward, seized sixth (1:01:26) in her debut in the senior women's race.
