Dartmouth Carnival

Let me first start by saying that, going into this ski season, I knew this team was destined for great things.  Over the past two and half years that I've been coaching here, I've seen Williams skiers do things that many have only dreamt of accomplishing.  Whether it be individual podium finishes; team podium finishes; up-and-coming young athletes surprising not only the coaches, but themselves; long hours of studying and doing homework, and still putting the team first; and athletes progressing through goal after goal - I'm constantly impressed by this group of student-athletes.

This past weekend has nonetheless impressed upon me what Williams Nordic is capable of accomplishing.  On Friday, we started three men's relay teams for the 3x5k relay.  Gunning for the win, our top team fell just short, but still maintained a podium finish for 3rd place (2nd in terms of team points).  This achievement, though bittersweet, was bolstered by our third team crossing the finish line in 7th place, and our second team in 11th.  Everyone skied their hearts out, yet all still wanting more.  This men's team is relentless.

Following the men's lead, the women continued turning heads, albeit their own coaches as well.  Strong scramble legs from Hannah Benson and Hannah Cole had our first two teams in 3rd and 5th going into the second leg.  Ultimately finishing 4th and 6th place, several coaches from other teams remarked on our women's strength and depth, as they both finished before all other NESCAC school's first teams, and everyone, except Dartmouth's, second teams.

Their performances in the relay put us in 2ND PLACE as a nordic team, overall.
