Williams Ski Coach (1995/96) Slind's Three Daughters Win Norwegian National Championship Relay

On Sunday February 1st, the Norwegian National Championship Relay was held as the culmination of a week of National Championship races in Roros, Norway.  The women's race was won by team Oppdal IL by .7 seconds over team Hemming lead by Olympic medalist Astrid Jacobson. The interesting factor for Williams skiing enthusiasts is that the team was made up of three daughters of Peder Einar Slind the coach of the Williams Team in 1995/96.   The three daughters, twins Astrid and Silje and sister Kari all got their schooling started in Williamstown as either 1st graders or in kindergarten. Coach and wax tech Peder and his daughters have previously won silver and bronze in the relay National Championships so the youngest daughter Kari is quoted in the press as saying "it was time for the gold."  The winners were greeted by the King Harald of Norway after the race and Kari is again quoted as saying she was pleased to hear the King say he expected them to win. This event and all Nordic National Championship events are televised nationally and widely followed by the Norwegian public. The women have previously won medals at the World Junior Championships and the World Juniors.  Astrid and Silje have recently completed their masters degrees and Kari is completing her bachelor's degree.

Congratulations to Team Slind from the Williams Nordic Team!  Here is the story in Norwegian and a picture of the team:  http://www.langrenn.com/slind-soestrene-vant-nm-gull-for-oppdal.5683906-238001.html
