Dimitri 5th, Williams 5th after Day 1 at UVM

Dimitri

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KNAPPSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a gorgeous day at Trapps Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont. Partly sunny, great tracks, great temps, and surprisingly (for Trapps) very little wind.

The races were 15/20km classic mass start races, seeded by points earned through the previous races this year. Both starts this year were very clean – no broken equipment or pile-ups – though the packs took a good while to break up and spread out.

Dimitri Luthi had the high finish of the day, capturing 5th place for the third classic race in a row (out of three!). After leading the men’s race for one lap, he dropped back slightly and had to ski alone for a good portion of the race, but he was not far behind the top 4 at the finish. Mark Johnson had a great classic race, finishing 18th, and Keith Kantack rounded out a 5th place men’s team score by placing 36th.

For the women, Kirsten Johnson headed the team in 25th place. Meanwhile, her teammates Madey Wendt, Christina Knapp, and Sarah Tory skied in a pack to place 34th through 36th.  Knapp used the race to help her turn not only a year older and wiser - but - faster!
