The steep hill intervals around the 2km course at the jumping complex in Lake Placid were a close replica to the intervals we did up Lac St Hilaire in Quebec - - - which must have done us some good, because today the team rocked the course and put up some great stats to start the carnival season off right.
It was a nice frosty morning and the tracks were rockin with a few layers of blue. The men did 5 laps and the women 3. The college carnival was combined with a SuperTour, and there was a constant stream of traffic around the short track - 5 hours of races with over 400 participants - with teams ranging from west coast to east coast to Canada to Brazil. . . . . to rookie, to national team, to young, to old, to stylish suits to knicker suits. . . . and everything in between.
Dimitri, Keith, and Mark scored the men's points with 5th, 10th, and 22nd place finishes: stepping the men's team up to the podium with a 3rd place finish.
Kirsten, Sarah, and Christina placed 14th, 18th, and 21st for a combined score that landed the women's team in fourth.
The rookie award of the day goes to Isaac Hoenig: a top 30 finish (28th) in his first carnival race!
We aren't resting here. We're psyched, ready, and gunning for tomorrow.
