The Speed Report

This weekend was a big weekend for the ski team. We competed in the annual Purple Valley Classic 5k against a variety of NESCAC schools. Luckily for us, our matching shirts showed up just in time to be debuted in the race. With the team looking FAST, we had a strong showing in the heat.

Jack getting ready to catch some people

Dylan looking fast with speedy sunglasses.
Carmen blowing people away
 Me and my FAST sunglasses

Marika and Hadassah flying by

Lilly and Ivy about to make some moooves!

Ingrid Thyr was our official race photographer. Lucy Alexander and Siri Bohacek helped out as members of the worlds most motivational cheer squad. Without them and our collection of FAST looking sunglasses, who knows how the race might have turned out.

3K and getting convocated

The team ripped around the track 7.5 times today and saw quite a few PR's pass through as well. Exciting stuff!

Siri trying out the new femur while leading the women today!

Jenae laying down a 40sec PR, woah

Hadassah bringing her A-game to her first ever 3K

Grub grub speeding by

Isaac showing off his tongue (again)

And, in other news, the seniors got to try on our lovely gowns (capes?) during Convocation last Saturday.

The Iceman

Hello everyone!

We're back!

Everyone who isn't abroad is back on campus for another fall of training, school, and goooood times.

All the new freshman are here too, and so I present to you an entry interview with the Iceman, Jacob Jampel.

Q. Please state your name for the record.
A. Jacob Jampel

Q. How have the first couple weeks on campus been? Was WOOLF/First Days fun?
A. First Days were excellent, very long but important. It was important to use the time to get to know my room mate, we have very different schedules. It was also a good time to get to know my entry.

Q. Where are you from?
A. Newton, MA.

Q. Given the choice between a regular spoon and a soup spoon, what will you choose? (there is a correct answer here)
A. I guess I'd choose regular, cus that's what I'm using right now... (he chose the incorrect answer)

Q. Do you have any special skills we should know about?
A. This is a joke sort of but it also applies to me, I'm really good at guessing how long to microwave things without reading the label. I'm also really good at stubbing my toe. I'm also good at walking really fast.

Q. What's the highest you've ever jumped?
A. Probably like, higher than this... ("this" being in reference to the counters in Paresky)

Q. Skate or Classic?
A.  Definitely classic

Q. Favorite hot bev?
A. Hot chocolate

Q. What do you think of as your career best result?
A. Probably that one where we shared the podium, that was pretty sweet. (Eastern Cup 15k classic at Holderness, 2017-18)

Q. What's your favorite dining hall meal so far?
A. This salmon pasta from Mission, also I'm enjoying these spicy miso noodles right now

Q. What are your main academic interests?
A. Right now I really like my History course and my CS course, also maybe math.

Q. What does your nickname mean?
A. It means that I'm Icy Fresh (TM), cool as some icy, minty gum.

There you have it folks, he's the iceman, and he's minty-freakin-fresh.

More Freshman Profiles to come soon we hope.

fáilte!

Fáilte (welcome in Irish) friends!

I've settled in nicely to Dublin. Everyone here is genuinely kind and excited to be here which is a nice recipe for a phenomenal semester.

Me and a friend cliff jumping in Scotland (Jack, you would be proud of me for jumping)

Kelly, Kerry, Indigo and Alister in front of one of the many beautiful architectural pieces in this city (Ivy, you would be climbing all over these towers)

Some stained glass I found whilst *accidentally* breaking into a library I wasn't supposed to be in. Confidence really will get you anywhere in life.

Me being, quite literally, a poser using self timer just to prove I have been running a lot (and taking many breaks to admire the sea glass, shells and rocks)
My friend, Kate, and I in Scotland on the Isle of Skye

Purty waterfall

Big thumbs up for rainy camping on the Isle of Skye!

Sending big love to all of you as the semester begins. I think about you guys every day and my heart fills just a little bit more :) Cheesy but true.

Another Nice Day in the Albany Airport

I'm currently spending another wonderful afternoon in the Albany airport on my way back to Williamstown. Denver to Albany shouldn't be a difficult trip, but this seems to happen to me a lot; I think I need to get a better travel agent. On the positive side, my time here usually allows me to catch up on overdue blog posts, so here we go.

First, a brief summary of the end of my summer. After nine weeks of a lot of math (thanks Jakin for helping me through some long weeks of solo training), I made a quick stop in D.C. to visit legendary alumnus Evan Carr (sadly I missed Sonya by a couple weeks). Overall, he seems to be surviving in the big city. I didn't get any pictures of the closet that he will be living in for the next year, but I can promise that it's almost as big as my dorm room.  Since then I've spent three weeks at home catching up on sleep, reading (real books, not math), and training, as well as spending plenty of fun time at PT.

In typical fashion, I took almost no pictures this summer, but here they all are:

A great find at Stop & Shop
Some nice food post-conference in Cincinnati
Some less nice food, also in Cincinnati
The animals (minus one cat and ten chickens), either attempting to stop me from roller skiing or attempting to join me. Either way, they were disappointed.
A frame from some technique video. Bonus points if you can spot all 37 separate things I'm doing wrong.

Looking forward to being back on campus! I'm hoping to make it just in time for Driscoll dinner.

Sunny Summer Snapshots

Well, it's that time of year again folks. I arrived on campus last night after a long day of travel from Idaho and am so excited to get the year started! But before we dive into school, here are a few last snapshots from the Sunny Valley summah:

Out for a lovely bike ride with my brother on his visit in July!

A tired Ivy after a hard lift.

A more alive Ivy with the Nüdle out for a rrrip

A hawt Ingrid tryin' to cool down on a hot day

Ivy made a friend at the river. We had a jam sesh. Her name is Dani. It was great.

Lovely Lilly making some marvelous muffins. Seal of approval on this frosh.

I've had some knee issues this summer, but I was able to hike up Baldy a few times which was fun!

Unfortunately, my good high school friend's dad passed away suddenly a couple weeks ago so I returned to Yarmouth for the weekend on a sad note, but I did get to see Sarah for a brief moment which was wonderful.

My dad's cousin Peggy and her partner Renae came up for a visit and last weekend and we had a lovely hike in the Sawtooths!

Goodbye Idaho! Some scenic views on the way out.

It's crazy that it's already my senior year but I'm looking forward to a great last year at Williams!

Keep rockin' that cow.
