A (Somewhat Belated) First Blog Post

Time has been flying by – I can’t believe it’s been three months since college started! I’ve learned some valuable lessons in that time, such as always listen to Ingrid and her sense of direction. And if there are lots of branches across a forest trail, that means the path is closed. It doesn’t mean you should climb over them (and wind up getting a little lost, as happened to the women’s team on an OD).

We just finished up a week of easy training with a beautiful skate rollerski in Savoy on Sunday. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures from training, but here’s a pretty view of the sunrise on the way to the gym one morning – a nice reward for getting up early to lift.

On a final note, can’t wait for Craftsbury camp – only a week away!

Homecoming and the BIG SPLASH

Lots of photos and a bit of text coming your way from an excellent homecoming weekend!

We celebrated Lucy, Ingrid and Carmen's Birthday Friday night with a classic shake and bake themed party! Here's Elowyn presenting a carrot cake to the Birthday Girls.

WOW. the GOAT Eli Hoenig makes an appearance at the birthday part. Here he is with Ivy, myself and Jack Consenstein.

Another Alum Luke Costley hyped to be back on campus.

Some people go to school dances to dance, others like Sonya Jampel go to fill their pockets with crackers.

Saturday morning a big crew gathered in Paresky for the BIG SPLASH

Alums Luke, Josh, and Eli

Consenstein and Schrupp headed to Frosh quad to wake up a delinquent Andrew Hull who though he might not wake up.

Sonya's hyped for the splash

happy runners

up pine cobble!

The view from the top!

woohoo

Jack Consenstein pretty smiley about the tailgate setup

How many big strong skiers does it take to set up a grill?

Sadly no pictures of the dancing as got so lost in the moment I forgot about the blog, but I can assure you we got down.

Now time to buckle down since it's starting to feel like the home stretch of fall semester! Not to mention, time to buckle down on training, too. Just 9 short days until Craftsbury camp!

Checking in from the Office!

Just checking in from the office to give you guys an update on how things are progressing with Jason and I.  Jason recently found a new feature on his iPhone that lets you send Gifs via the messages app.  I posted a few below that he has sent me, also with a brief description of the reasoning behind the message.

This was the first Gif that he sent me.  I believe Jason was getting a little frustrated at the amount of emails that were piling up in his inbox.

This GIF was a response from Jason when I accidentally sent him a text message that was meant for my fiancĂ©.  The text message was in regards to groomsmen choices for our wedding (no date decided yet).

The most recent GIF depicts a frustrated Michael Scott.  This is the mood that both Jason and I were in regarding some issues we have been having with one of our clothing suppliers.

I will be sure to keep everyone updated if there is any further development on the GIF front from the office.

Freshman Exposé: Andrew Hull

Despite Andy's chiseled torso and tough exterior, recent information surrounding his past has come to light that promises to reinvent the young man. Contributed reporting by Jordan Fields '17 has revealed a 17 year old that, despite his young age, already has a storied past: 2-time Alaska state National Geographic Finalist. Shown below is a young Andy on the eve of his second national competition in never before seen promotional material from National Geographic:

The video also highlights Andy's early experiments in sculpture:

The whereabouts of the snowman are currently unknown.

Despite enjoying storied success at the national level, Andy will still need to prove himself against the current team geography champion Evan "Carr-Daddy." The struggle between these two geographical behemoths is sure to be a fierce one. For now the two are studying furiously but be on the watch for a rumble in January when they are expected to meet for the first time.

Special thanks to Jordan Fields for spending countless hours stalking team members online, his relentless dredging of the past is always appreciated.

Not the typical week

This hard week did not come without its unexpected twists and turns. Due to wet November weather, we had to adapt our interval workout from Wednesday to Thursday and from skate to classic.

Dylan and Emil seen below cresting Petersburg Pass after the hard over-under double pole workout.

For the women’s team there was added excitement on the Sunday run / hike OD, to cap off the hard week, when the trail was lost, extending the workout well beyond the anticipated 3hrs.

Women’s team seen below on Taconic Crest and entering into the Snow Hole, which sadly had no snow.

Sunday Morning Forecast: 100% Chance of Skiing in the Rain

The local weather forecasters of the metropolis of Williamstown predicted steady rain, lively gusts of wind, and spotted rollerskiers throughout the day on Sunday. Residents were not disappointed. Exclusive photos of the meteorological event below:

Capt. Schrupp clearly follows the weather and came well prepared for the predicted precipitation

Frosh Maggie York proves her Alaskan roots by her ability to maintain a positive shin angle in any conditions

When asked for a comment about her saturating experience, Junior Sonya Jampel simply wrung out her socks, unleashing a literal waterfall onto the ground. Nothing more needed to be said.

Henry's first blog post

On Sunday 10/22/17 we began the day with a 3.5 hour classic/skate ski ending at the top of Mount Greylock.  These "wheelie skates" really are fun.

Setting Important Goals

As a new member of the women's ski team I have been comparing this team to my team from back home and I have found a very large problem.  A problem so large it is larger than Sarah Becker's back muscles. A problem so large if it had a smell it would smell worse than the van after our 3.5 hour OD's. But no problem is too large to fix when you are a nordic skier at Williams College.

This is the problem: We live in the moment too much.

I guess it's a good thing that we get caught up in the moment while roller skiing through beautiful winding east coast trails BUT I am not able to translate my mental snapshots onto this piece of online paper!

Therefore I vow to start taking more photos and attempting to capture a slice of how beautiful East Coast Fall is.

Here is a not very exciting (we will work on it) video from our double pole workout a bit ago.

We Back.
