TBD Stage 2: The Yellow Jersey changes posession

Stage 2 was a classic rollerski down Route 43, ending at the top of Whitman Road in Hancock, MA. With no wind and clear skies, we couldn't have asked for a nicer evening for the race. Sarah Tory and Keith Kantack were defending their yellow leader's jerseys as we started the races in 15 second intervals, reverse pursuit style.

As the evening set in we had two new champions and two new leaders: Maddy Wendt and Casey Jones blasted through the course, each finishing more than 30 seconds up on their competitors. It was a Triple Crown for Maddy: the stage win, overall leader jersey, and the celebration of her 22nd birthday!

Casey took the stage by 38 seconds, which gives him a lead of only 7 seconds over Keith in the overall Tour. Remarkably, after 2 stages we have a 3-way tie for 3rd place in the men's field: Phil, Evan, and Robby are all sitting at 34:30.

Today's stage is a classic sprint to the top of Bulkley. Who will break the tie in Stage 3?!! Who will be the new Yellow Jersey owner? Stay tuned!!

Tour De Berkshires, Stage 1: Skate Prologue

The first stage of the Tour de Berkshires was completed yesterday and two new leaders were named.

Keith Kantack and Sarah Tory outsprinted their teammates for the Stage win and picked up some nice time bonuses as well.

The skiers started 30 seconds apart and sprinted to the top of Bulkley street - cresting the top of the hill to the finish just as the sun went down.

Kantack and Tory earned 25 second time bonuses; second place Maddy Wendt and Phil Tosteson earned 10 second bonuses; 5 second bonuses go to third place finishers Hannah Hausman and Casey Jones.

Today the Tour resumes with a classic distance race on Route 43, a rolling course that ends with a steep climb up to the top of Whitman Rd.

2nd Annual: Concept2 Ski Erg World 1K

(*updated with Ian Nesbitt's results.)Next weekend schools and clubs across the U.S. will compete in the 1,000 meter challenge posed by Concept2 Ski Ergs. Since we have scheduled our Tour de Berkshires for next weekend, we decided to post our 1K times a week early.

It's a tough test. 1000 meters seems like a short stint. . . . until you pull as hard as you can for over 3 minutes, using not only your arms but your torso, abs, legs. . . . . Some think this is one of the hardest tests we perform.

Posting top performances this year were Keith Kantack and Maddy Wendt. Ironically both skiers pulled the same times as they had last year: Maddy's time was .2 faster while Keith was an exact match to the tenth. The top improvement came from Hannah Hausman, who slashed 13.9 seconds off her previous time.

Adding to the spirit of the day: eight of the Mt Greylock High School skiers joined in and put up some solid times. Luke Costley and Chloe Anderson were the fastest male and female from the group, clocking 4:02.7 and 5:53.8.
